Equity for Tanzania (EFTA) is a poverty alleviation initiative conceived and managed jointly by Equity for Africa (based in UK) and Bumaco Ltd (as founders). EQUITY FOR TANZANIA LTD (EFTA) is an incorporated with effect from 29th October, 2003.
EFTA Vision is- enhanced prosperity through well functioning and equipped small to medium enterprises. The company Mission is- to enhance prosperity through facilitation of enterprises with machinery, equipment and management advisory services.

Objectives:
The programme objective is to support profitable development of small to medium (SMEs) sized businesses in Tanzania by:-
(a) Enabling sustainable development;
(b) Creating additional employment;
(c) Creating wealth to enable Tanzanians extend and improve their standard of living; and also EFTA envisages to encourage a linkage between business people in the United Kingdom contributing to the Fund and EFTA funded companies in Tanzania.

Area of Operation:
Currently EFTA concentrates in Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Manyara Regions as a pilot phase but the experience gained is expected to be extended to other regions in Tanzania.

After investment, monitoring will be done regularly and review progress against planned or projected targets with a view to reviewing the implementation process. EFTA will retain the title of the machinery and equipment until the capital and margin are fully repaid. Profits acruing from the programme shall be loaned to other qualified business clients for the ultimate goal of poverty reduction.

RUFIP is an intensive pilot programme for innovative initiatives as a rural finance intermediation. It was designed initially as a three-years pilot programme intervention in 25 rural communities in Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Mara Regions. Four out of six districts in Kilimanjaro Region will be assisted to establish well functioning rural community financial institutions (SACCOs ) that provide affordable and accessible savings and credit facilities. The RFI will be tailored to meet the basic needs of the community to support the member's economic and social activities. Ultimately the institutions will be transformed into frontal banking.

The RFI Vision is a vibrant rural communities that enable their members to continuously improve their livelihoods through their own RFI's and related organizations. Emphasis shall be wide coverage in rural Communities to the level of a ward focused on enabling the RFIs to attain sustainability and capable providing efficient and effective financial services aimed at integration of various rural economic activities like agriculture, trade and industries .

The RFI's, shall encourage every individual in the Community to join, including operators in farming, livestock, fisheries, traders and employees in various institutions. Ultimate goals to facilitate the RFI's to have tens of thousands of members unlike current situations where rural SACCs have less than one thousand members . Progressively the RFI's will expand and provide several tailor made product choices similar to urban banking system. Also RFI's will synergize with banks like KCB,CRDB,ACB,NMB etc. whereby the bank will provide whole sale products to rural SACCOs.
